LEPRECHAUN TRAP MINI GARDEN INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1:  You will want to start by finding an empty tin can from your bins or recycling cans (make sure there are no sharp edges).

STEP 2.  Next, you need to cut a piece of green colored craft paper to cover the outer surface of the tin can or the pot you want to use.

STEP 3.  Then use the craft glue to wrap and attach the craft paper around the tin can. Make sure to cover the whole tin can (only the outer surface). Alternatively, you can attach the paper with tape if needed.

Quick Tip: Don’t want to use paper? How about green craft tape!

STEP 4.  Last, you want to fill the tin can with small pebbles or stones. Head outside and collect them yourself or check the dollar and craft stores!

STEP 5.  Construct your choice of  garden accessories for your Leprechaun Trap.  See instructions below!

STEP 6.  Lucky you! You can start arranging the items in your can or pot and tie up the bunting or garland!

What else could you add? What do leprechauns love?

  • gold coins
  • shamrocks
  • skittles
  • gold painted pebbles
  • flowers

LEPRECHAUN TRAP MINI GARDEN ACCESSORIES

We have a bunch of fun little accessories to decorate our leprechaun trap mini gardens for kids. However, you can get creative and come up with your own. Find a FREE pattern to download in the supplies list above.

The template includes a rainbow base, 6 arch shaped borders for 6 colors of the rainbow, cloud, pot of gold base and pot of gold.  You will want to trace the template patterns onto different colored construction or scrapbook paper and then cut them out.

MAKE A ST PATRICK’S DAY RAINBOW AND POT OF GOLD

building a rainbow and pot of gold for leprechaun trap STEM project

STEP 1.  Stick the 6 arch shaped cutouts on the rainbow base and stick the gold pot on the round cut out base. A small part of the gold pot’s base should be visible on the top side of the gold pot.

STEP 2.  Apply golden craft glitter on the gold pot base part which is visible from the top side. Stick the cloud cut out on either open end side of the rainbow. Now stick the rainbow-cloud and the pot of gold on popsicle sticks.

QUICK TIP: You can accomplish this rainbow challenge however you want! Use markers and crayons, paint, glitter, or specialty paper to create your own unique version for your leprechaun trap garden.

MAKE A MINI GARDEN LADDER

STEP 1.  You will need 2 Popsicle sticks for the sides of the ladder and 5 or 6 small sticks (by cutting the Popsicle into small pieces) for the stairs of the ladder.

STEP 2.  Use acrylic color to paint the popsicles prepared for the ladder. Once the paint is complete, allow the paint to dry.

STEP 3.  Place the 2 side Popsicle sticks on a flat surface, parallel wise. Keep a small gap between both side Popsicle sticks, so that the small sticks can be attached on both sides when gluing them.

MAKE A MINI GARDEN BUNTING OR BANNER

To make a little strand of garland, thread pompoms/wooden beads/or pony beads into a piece of thread or string. You want to make sure to leave enough string at either end of the beads to be able to tie it between two twigs or craft sticks.

Alternatively, you can make a bunting! Cut out small triangle shapes from colored craft papers and stick them on a piece of thread to make a mini paper bunting.

items to include in leprechaun trap ideas are rainbows, ladders, pots of gold

This min garden makes a wonderful leprechaun project for kids to work on for St Patricks Day or add it to a larger leprechaun trap idea for even more chances to catch the sneaky little guy!
